Mental Health, Brain Science, and Yoga

This powerful workshop will review research in brain science that show how yoga and mindfulness practices impact on mental and emotional health. The presenters will review the concepts of resiliency, emotional health, and healing related to anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, and mood states. Practical applications of yoga and mindfulness will be shared that impact on brain function and vagus nerve tone. Students will leave with a deeper understanding of how a combination of health psychology, yoga, and neuroscience contribute to health and healing.

The workshop will include:

  • How yogic practices influence our neurobiology, brain, and hormones

  • Research on Yoga practices and healing

  • Discussion on neural plasticity, neurogenesis, and brain resiliency

  • The importance of the vagus nerve and vagal toning.

  • Neuro-therapies for healing by both practitioners and for self-healing

  • Practices that rewire the brain and positively impact mood states

  • Research on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) and how trauma affects mental health and physical health outcomes
