The Cardiac Yoga Teacher Training Program is an internationally renowned certification program designed to educate and train medical personnel and yoga instructors to work with cardiac patients and their spouses in the area of Lifestyle Medicine and Medical Yoga. Participants in this comprehensive training program learn how to adapt the basic concepts of medical yoga, lifestyle medicine, and stress management to the special needs of the cardiac patient and their spouses.
We are in our 30th year of certifying healthcare workers, yoga therapists, and yoga teachers in how to adapt medical yoga for patients with heart disease and diabetes. We will be happy to consider your application and to have you have come on board to learn the powerful healing benefits of medical yoga.
Step 1: Submit your application and send it in. The application is to the right of this page. There is a $35. application fee to cover our Board of Directors reviewing your application.
Step 2: When your application is approved, you will receive a link to our Thinkific On-Line Learning platform to pay your tuition and begin your online study. Part One of the training must be completed by August 20, 2026 in order to participate in Part Two (Live on Zoom) in September.
Step 3: Before the start of Part Two of the training you will receive instructions, a schedule, and a recurring zoom link for Part Two. The training for Part Two is live on zoom and it is expected that students will attend all of the sessions in order to complete the necessary hours to receive certification in Cardiac Medical Yoga. Part Two dates: September 18-20 and September 25-27, 2026. Approximate times: 9:30-12:00 EST; 1:00-3:00 p.m. EST; 4:00-6:00 p.m. EST
Step 4: After completing Part Two of the training, students will have up to a couple of months to complete Part Three of the training which includes a teaching practicum requirement. This consists of each student teaching 5 Cardiac Medical Yoga classes and turning in both self- and other-evaluations of your teaching - and some self-reflections on your performance.
Step 5: At the completion of Part Three the entire class will convene for a celebration, review, and graduation - all on zoom.

The Cardiac Yoga Certification Program is a competency-based program that includes training and instruction in the following areas:

Risk Factors and Diagnostic Procedures
Psychosocial Aspects of Heart Disease
Concepts of Lifestyle Medicine
The Neuroscience of Yoga
Relaxation Strategies, Breathing, and Mindfulness for Heart Patients
Yoga Postures adapted for Heart Patients (Limited Mobility Yoga)
Communication Skills and Group Dynamics
How to Market Cardiac Yoga
You will learn through lecture and experiential activities from highly respected professionals in the fields of cardiology, exercise physiology, yoga, mindfulness, and psychology.
All Yoga traditions are welcome to apply
Earn Certification to teach Cardiac Yoga
Participation is open to Healthcare Workers, Mental Health Practitioners, Yoga Therapists, Yoga Teachers, and Allied Healthcare Workers and others.
100 APD credits are available through Yoga Alliance and IAYT.
Yoga teaching certification is NOT required for admittance into the training program.

Additional Information
1) The schedule for Part 2 consists of both lectures and experiential & clinical activities and will cover: 1) instruction in medical yoga postures, breathing, guided imagery and meditation for heart patients, 2) an overview of lifestyle medicine, stress and heart disease, 3) anatomy and physiology of the heart, 4) heart disease risk factors and the effects of medications on the practice of yoga, 5) an understanding of neuroscience and yoga, 6) contraindications for practicing yoga with heart patients, 7) psychosocial aspects of heart disease, 8) instruction in basic communication skills and how to run a support group for heart patients, 9) how to market cardiac yoga to hospitals and 10) research on brain science and yoga.
2. Pre & Post Course Requirements: You do not have to be a certified yoga instructor to apply for the training. If you are in the medical field (and are not a yoga teacher) we request that you take at least 3 months of yoga classes before admission to the program. Students are also encouraged to obtain CPR prior to the start of the course. You can contact your local hospital or American Heart Association for information on CPR classes. Studying and passing the on-line, Part One portion of the course is required before starting Part Two of the course. Part Three (post-course requirements) include documented teaching experiences and journaling – to be completed within 2-3 months of the training program. Students are also encouraged to have a personal yoga and meditation practice. All evaluation forms are provided for the students.
3. Certification: Students must pass two competency tests, a clinical evaluation, and turn in post course requirements in order to receive certification in Cardiac Medical Yoga. Students are given several opportunities to pass the written competency tests. Study guides & the training manual are provided in the first lesson of the online course. We encourage early registration as enrollment is limited for this certification course.

5) Please note: Even if you have received an acceptance notice, your place is not secure until your full tuition is paid. Please register early as there is limited enrollment for this course.
6) Refund Policy: If you cancel 45+ days prior to the start of the program you receive a full refund minus the $35.00 application fee and a $75.00 administrative fee. Canceling 30-44 days prior to the start you receive a full refund minus $350.00. If you cancel 20-29 days before the start of the program you receive a refund minus 50% of the total program fee. Canceling 19 days or less before the program you receive a refund minus 75% of tuition. No refund is possible after starting.
