This 45-hour APD training will enable Yoga Therapists to deepen their understanding of how & why Yoga works through the lens of neuroscience research and polyvagal theory.  Specific Yoga Therapy practices will be reviewed such as asana, pranayama, meditation, & cognitive revamping — and participants will learn how to design & apply treatment options that includes a neurobiological perspective.

Research studies will be reviewed that show support of the yoga practices including impact on resiliency, optimism, self-regulation, health status & mood states.

This workshop will cover:

1) concepts of affective neuroscience, the limbic system and yoga therapy,

2) a foundational understanding of neuroscience theory & research,

3) how yoga, mindfulness, & meditation practices impact on brain chemistry, plasticity & mood management,

4) how polyvagal theory can be applied to yoga theory and yoga therapy treatment options,

5) a review of specific asanas, breathing, and meditational practices that enhance vagal tone and impact on brain chemistry.

This ADF is designed so that yoga therapists  can better understand the impact of the yoga practices on our neurophysiology, mood states and emotions and can thus, apply this information into their treatment options for clients within a yoga therapy paradigm.   Students will have an opportunity to present a case study and receive instructor feedback.
